Every Christmas Season I try to give to others. We most certainly know that times are tough for a lot of people right now. People are hungry. People are cold. Some parents won't be able to provide their children with Christmas gifts. And while we too have had to scale back, we are blessed. Rarely, if ever, does Kyndall go without. Unfortunately, there are many children who do.
I especially wanted to concentrate on children this year. I looked and asked around to find something different than the usual organizations I donate to such as Kids Yule Love, Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army Angels. I ran across Project Night-Night and immediately felt compelled to donate what I could.
Project Night-Night is a charity that packages donated blankets, books and stuffed animals in small canvas totes to homeless children living in shelters. There are over 29,000 homeless children in the US alone due to economy changes, natural disasters and every day misfortunes. A blanket would help to provide security, a stuffed animal is considered a new friend and a book will help to encourage reading and family bonding while easing the fear of sheltered living.
I know how very important reading a bedtime story is to Kyndall and how much she enjoys cuddling into us on our laps at night, eager to listen to her favorite book with her blanket and stuffed pig ready to go "Nihe-Nihe". I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for children living in a shelter. I looked in Kyndall's closet and gathered up some blankets she had never used. I took a trip to Kohl's Department Store and purchased their books and stuffed animals they offer for $5 a piece through 'Kohl's Cares for Kids'. 100% of the net profits from these purchases go to help fund children's health and education initiative programs. Two great deeds for one! I can't wait until Kyndall is older and we can teach her that Christmas is about giving and she can help me go through her toys and pick out the ones she doesn't play with anymore and give them to children that are less fortunate.
I am boxing these up to send off because every child deserves a good nights sleep.
